The web’s gone DH World Cup crazy. Want to know the split times of the 67th man down the hill or whether Steve Peat’s a Calvins or Sloggi man? The answer’s out there. But if you just want the essentials, that’s where Sliced & Diced comes in. Here are our standouts from this weekend’s racing in Mont-Sainte-Anne, Canada.
World Cup #4 claimed some high-profile victims. Steve Peat had a little tumble on camera but soon dusted himself off. Gee Atherton had a much nastier off in practice, and Josh Bryceland came a cropper too. Come finals time, Matti Lehikoinen separated his shoulder and injured his groin (just writing that makes us wince) after clipping a rock with his front wheel.
It was 19-year-old Trek World Racing star Neko Mulally who had us all worried, though, when he ballsed up the hip jump and knocked himself out. Amazingly, he didn’t break any bones and just suffered minor concussion.
Mont-Sainte-Anne’s a brutal course, with high-speed piste sections and jagged rock gardens. The pits were full of buckled wheels, and Mick Hannah and Brendan Fairclough both rolled across the line with broken chains. At least it gave them an excuse to style it up!
Rachel plays catch-up
Rachel Atherton stormed to victory in the women’s race. She’s now just 30 points behind Emmeline Ragot in the overall standings – amazing, considering she missed the first round. Now if she can just stay on the bike…
