Video: XC racer Kenta Gallagher helps dispel the ‘all fitness, no skill’ myth

It’s the weekend of the Olympic cross-country races and we’re going to be glued to the screen. Why? XC racers may be super-fit but they’re rubbish on the downhills, right? Wrong. To make it at the top level you need to be a great bike handler – as Kenta Gallagher, a member of British Cycling’s Olympic Academy Programme, proves in this video, where he swaps his race steed for a slopestyle bike.

Team GB only have one place in the men's Olympic XC, and that's gone to Liam Killeen. U23 rider Kenta, who recently signed with Boardman Bikes, will definitely be one to watch in 2016, though. Picture by Luke Webber
