Orange Strange 29er prototype spotted at Eurobike

“If everyone else is going ‘zig’ we’ll probably have a good look at ‘zag’,” says Orange’s Michael Bonney, grinning as he stares at one of his favourite creations, a new 140mm-travel 29er bearing the 'Strange' logo.

Designed to combine the great rolling efficiency of the brand's recently released, 110mm Gyro 29er with the playfulness of the iconic Orange Five, the new bike (which looked suspiciously close to production to us) features a 142mm back end, a 1.5in head tube and some sturdy haunches.

It's light, though – exactly how light is hard to say, and Orange remained tight lipped at Eurobike. There are nine of the prototypes currently undergoing extensive testing. More as we get it…

Plenty of prototypes have borne Orange's 'Strange' logo over the years – we really hope this one makes it to production. Picture by Rob Weaver
