Don't be fooled by the primary colours – this pack's got your back!

Riding packs used to be functional but boring, with drab khaki the order of the day and the only point of interest being just how many awkwardly sized and shaped pockets could be squeezed in. Then along came EVOC in a blast of colour. The Germany company always seem to get the balance between performance, features and styling just right, and this latest FR Lite Team backpack is a case in point.

The detachable back protector adds peace of mind, and there's 10 litres of storage within the pack's long, thin shape – ample for most trail/all-mountain/enduro outings. Most of this is in the large main compartment, which has room for even the bulkiest of waterproofs with sandwich space to spare. Our only complaint is that there's no water bladder included. Check out the photos for more details.

Plenty of packs now come with spine guards but not all are CE certified and few are this light – 172g on our scales, with the whole pack weighing dead-on 1kg (2.2lb). Picture by James Costley-White
